HC Deb 23 June 1893 vol 13 cc1768-9
MR. NAOROJI (Finsbury, Central)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for India if he will state, out of the total expenditure (including capital expenditure on public works) of Rs.855,000,000 for the year 1890–91, what total amount (distinguishing Military and Civil Services) was paid in India and in England for salaries, pensions, and all sorts of allowances to Europeans in all departments?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Mr. GEORGE RUSSELL,) North Beds.

This question cannot be answered accurately without an elaborate, inquiry in India. But the total amount as to which my hon. Friend asks for information may be approximately estimated at 14,593,000 tens of rupees.
