§ MR. J. F. X. O'BRIEN (Mayo, S.)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state the number of holdings in County Mayo in respect of which applications were made before 1st January last to have the titles registered under the Local Registration of Title (Ireland) Act, and which titles have not yet been registered; and if he will explain the cause of delay?
MR. J. MORLEYI am informed that applications were lodged in respect of 290 holdings in Mayo prior to 1st January last, and that none of these have as yet been registered. The applications from Mayo were lodged very late; the first application was not received until September last, and only 29 were lodged before the 1st December, 1892. The cause of the delay in registration appears to be due partly to the low place which the Mayo cases occupy in the already heavy list of cases awaiting registration, and partly to the apathy of the applicants themselves in replying to requisitions sent out from the Office of the Registration of Title.
§ MR. J. F. X. O'BRIENWhen may my constituents expect to get this settled? Many of the titles have been sent in since last November.
MR. J. MORLEYI have answered the question on the Paper. I will communicate any further information to the hon. Gentleman privately.
