HC Deb 12 June 1893 vol 13 c776
MR WHITMORE (Chelsea)

I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether there has been, or is, any scheme for the erection of Government Offices on the vacant land to the west of Parliament Street, and between Great George Street and the Offices of the Local Government Board, on which it is now suggested that a new County Hall for London should be built?

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. SHAW LEFEVRE,) Bradford, Central

There was some years ago a scheme for erecting Government Offices on the site fronting Parliament Street now offered to the Loudon Council; but successive Governments appear to have decided against it, and in the opinion of the present Government there is no need for the erection of Offices on this site. A portion of the land behind King Street and fronting the India Office may be required for the purpose; but this is not included in the site offered to the London Council.
