HC Deb 24 July 1893 vol 15 c314
MR. HENEAGE (Great Grimsby)

I best to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can state what was the entire cost of the Royal Commission on Agricultural Interests, presided over by the Duke of Richmond; and whether there, will be any Supplementary Estimate for the proposed Royal Commission on Agriculture, or any opportunity given to the House of expressing an opinion on this expenditure of public money?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Sir W. HARCOURT,) Derby

The cost of this Commission appears from the Parliamentary Return to have been £24,226.

MR. HENEAGE

Will the right hon. Gentleman answer the last paragraph of my question?

SIR W. HARCOURT

No, Sir; Supplemental Estimates are never proposed in such cases.

MR. HENEAGE

Are we to have no opportunity of discussing this matter before it is proceeded with?

SIR W. HARCOURT

If the right hon. Gentleman desires to prevent an inquiry of this kind, no doubt he will find an opportunity of doing so.
