HC Deb 24 July 1893 vol 15 c312
MR. M'CARTAN (Down, S.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, considering the public confidence placed by constituencies in their Members of Parliament, he will communicate with the Lord Chancellor as to the desirability of conferring the Commission of the Peace on every Member of Parliament for the county or borough in which his constituency is situate?

MR. ASQUITH

I do not think that the Lord Chancellor would be disposed to look favourably on such a proposal as the hon. Member suggests, and I certainly shall not take the responsibility of making it.
