HC Deb 13 July 1893 vol 14 c1458
MR. BARTLEY (Islington, N.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether all public property in the United Kingdom pays its full share of local rates; and, if not, whether he can state which buildings do not, and what proportion they do pay?

THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Sir J. T. HIBBERT, Oldham)

All property in the United Kingdom occupied by the Crown for the Public Service, including all property in charge of the Commissioners of Woods, pays its full share of local rates. The only property in charge of any Department of State that does not pay rates is that maintained out of the Mercantile Marine Fund administered by the Board of Trade.
