HC Deb 11 July 1893 vol 14 c1271
MR. KNATCHBULL-HUGESSEN (Kent, Faversham)

In the absence of the hon. Member for North Dorset, I beg to ask the President of the Board of Agriculture whether agents of his Department travelling through the three Counties of Wilts, Dorset, and Somerset have computed the losses consequent on the depression of agriculture at over £7,000,000?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF AGRICULTURE (Mr. H. GARDNER, Essex, Saffron Walden)

I have not seen the calculations to which the hon. Member refers, and I think there must be some error in attributing them to agents of my Department. There can, however, be no doubt that the dry season has seriously affected the three counties named, especially Dorsetshire, and that the consequent losses have been extremely heavy.
