HC Deb 05 July 1893 vol 14 c952
MR. PICKARD (York, W.R., Normanton)

asked if the Home Secretary had any further information with reference to the colliery accident at Thornhill; and whether he would appoint some competent person or persons to hold an inquiry?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. ASQUITH, Fife, E.)

I very much regret that I am not in a position to give any further detailed information as to this deplorable accident beyond the particulars which have already been made public. My hon. Friend may be assured that no effort will be spared—by sending a competent person to attend the inquiry—to get at the bottom of the matter with a view, if possible, of preventing the recurrence of such accidents in the future.
