HC Deb 27 February 1893 vol 9 c418
MR. JACKSON (Leeds, N.)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether, under the scheme of the Government for the alteration of the Registration Law, it is intended to retain the services of the assistant overseers for preparing the lists of voters, or whether it is intended to dispense with their services?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. H. H. FOWLER, Wolverhampton, E.)

The Bill contemplates that the duties at present performed by overseers and assistant overseers shall be transferred to the District Registrar. Not only is there no reason why the assistant overseer should not be appointed to that office, but there is a clause in the Bill which specially points him out as suitable for the appointment.
