HC Deb 27 February 1893 vol 9 c443
SIR RICHARD TEMPLE

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any decision has been come to regarding the proposed importation and settlement of Indian natives in tropical or sub-tropical Australia, with a view to the development of its agricultural and mineral resources?

MR. S. BUXTON

The question of the importation of Indian natives into the Australian Colonies is one for the Colonial Governments to deal with. As far as the Secretary of State is aware no definite conclusion has been come to on the subject, but South Australia has passed two Acts to enable such importation into its Northern territory, and a brief reference to the subject will be found in Parliamentary Paper, C. 6490.
