HC Deb 24 February 1893 vol 9 c322
CAPTAIN BAGOT (Westmoreland, Kendal)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether, in the event of the Home Rule Bill becoming law, the Resident Magistrates or other officials now having the power to call on British troops quartered in Ireland to assist the police on necessary occasions will still have the same authority?

MR. J. MORLEY

I hope that the hon. and gallant Gentleman will not think me wanting in courtesy to him if I say tat this is one of those speculative and hypothetical questions as to which no good purpose can be served by discussions in the form of question and answer across the Table of the House. I hope, therefore, he will be kind enough to postpone the consideration of the difficulty until the Second Reading of the Committee stage of the Home Rule Bill.
