HC Deb 23 February 1893 vol 9 c159
MR. BEITH (Inverness, &c.)

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland why the office of Procurator Fiscal for Elgin has been kept vacant since September last; if anyone has yet been nominated for the office; and when the appointment may be announced?

THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Sir G. TREVELYAN,) Glasgow, Bridgeton

The nomination lies with the Sheriff. The duty of the Secretary for Scotland is to confirm or decline to confirm the appointment. The Sheriff made an appointment which, on the 7th November, the Secretary for Scotland was unable to confirm. It was not till the 11th February that the Sheirff made another recommendation which is now being considered.
