HC Deb 21 February 1893 vol 9 cc35-6
MR. BEITH (Inverness, &c.)

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland, in view of the greatly extended area on the coast of Scotland from which steam trawling is prohibited by the Scotch Fishery Board, and also in view of the inadequate provision at the disposal of the Fishery Board for enforcing this prohibition, what steps, if any, are being taken to procure from the Treasury the requisite funds to place upon the prohibited waters an effective police to secure that the mandate of the Fishery Board be respected?

THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Sir G. TREVELYAN,) Glasgow, Bridgeton

The usual custom hitherto has been for two vessels to patrol the East Coast of Scotland in the summer season and one in the winter season. If that proves from experience to be inadequate, more protection must be applied for.
