HC Deb 20 February 1893 vol 8 c1854
MR. HAYDEN

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether recruiting for the Royal Irish Constabulary is still going on over Ireland; and, if so, whether he will consider the advisability of suspending recruiting for the present, in order to prevent the creation of further vested interests, which will have to be redeemed by the Irish Parliament?

*MR. J. MORLEY

In view of the statutory obligation to supply each county in Ireland with a free quota and to furnish extra force when duly required, it is necessary to provide against the natural waste in the Royal Irish Constabulary front tine to time as occasion requires. To that extent recruiting is going on, and must go on.
