HC Deb 29 December 1893 vol 20 cc438-9
SIR E. ASHMEAD-BARTLETT (Sheffield, Ecclesall)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty how many Havocks have been ordered, how many have been completed, and at what dates the remainder will be completed?

SIR U. KAY-SHUTTLEWORTH

I have nothing to add to the general statement which I made in the Debate last week as to the special efforts which have been made during the present year to build vessels callable of destroying torpedo boats. The Board of Admiralty consider that it would be undesirable in the public interest to enter into full particulars at the present time. But when next year's Estimates are brought forward the House will find that the construction of vessels of thin character has been proceeded with as rapidly as possible.

SIR E. ASHMEAD-BARTLETT

Do I understand the right hon. Gentleman to say he declines to inform the House how many vessels of this kind have been ordered by the Admiralty?

SIR U. KAY-SHUTTLEWORTH

The hon. Gentleman must understand nothing but what I have said.
