HC Deb 27 December 1893 vol 20 c264
MR. BARTLEY

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland how many of the Killarney settlers' lands have been sold by the Local Municipality in consequence of the non-payment of the municipal taxes; whether this took place after a satisfactory harvest; what is the amount of loss; and whether any part of it is likely to be recovered ultimately?

THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Sir G. TREVELYAN,) Glasgow, Bridgeton

Thirty-five lots of land have been bought in by the Local Municipality in consequence of the non-payment of municipal taxes. The owners remain on the land at present, and the lands can be redeemed within a year, on payment of 10 per cent, over the sum due, or within two years on payment of 20 per cent. The unpaid taxes vary from two dollars to 111 dollars. The harvest, I believe, was a fairly satisfactory one.
