HC Deb 27 December 1893 vol 20 cc269-70
MR. GIBSON BOWLES

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether any information has been laid before Her Majesty's Government showing the amount of the revenues which H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh derives from his Duchy of Saxe-Coburg, to which he has I now succeeded; and whether he will lay before this House any information placed before Her Majesty's Government in respect of this matter?

MR. W. E. GLADSTONE

Her Majesty's Government have no official information upon the subject of the revenues of Saxe-Coburg, and in their opinion—and I think the House will share that opinion—it would not be expedient that either the Government or the House of Commons should make it a subject of public inquisition.
