HC Deb 18 December 1893 vol 19 cc1591-2
MR. T. M. HEALY (Louth, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether the Government are cognisant of any attempt to force into retirement the present experienced clerk of Petty Sessions, Dundalk, and replace him by the son of an ex-District Inspector; has Colonel Cad-dell, Registrar of Petty Sessions Clerks, Dublin Castle, in any way interfered in this matter; is he aware that the County Louth Magistrates have already been canvassed by letter, as if a vacancy existed; and was any application made to the Dundalk Bench to recommend the retirement of the present clerk; and, if so, in whose interest was this application made?

MR. BRYCE (for Mr. J. MORLEY)

The Irish Government have no knowledge of the matters referred to in the first paragraph, nor, I am informed, is the Registrar of Petty Sessions Clerks aware that any representation, by letter or otherwise, has been made to the Dundalk Bench of Magistrates in favour of the retirement of the present clerk, or that it was, or is, in contemplation to replace him by the son of an ex-District Inspector.
