§ SIR E. LECHMERE (Worcestershire, Evesham)I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board how many of the 26 existing resident schools for the blind are certified under the Poor 1611 Law Board; and whether he will give the names of the schools so certified?
SIR W. FOSTERThe Local Government Board have certified 17 schools and institutions for the blind under the Act 25 & 26 Vict., c. 43. I shall be happy to furnish the hon. Member with a list of these schools. I may also observe that Boards of Guardians are empowered by Section 42 of the 31 & 32 Vict., c. 122, with the approval of the Local Government Board, to send any blind child to any school fitted for the reception of the child, although the school may not have been certified by the Board.
