HC Deb 15 December 1893 vol 19 cc1493-4
MR. T. W. RUSSELL

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War, with reference to the case of Terence McCarroll, of Beragh, County Tyrone,' who was admitted to pension on 11th August, 1874, at the rate of 8d. per day, is he aware that the War Office recognised in 1890 that a mistake of 1d. per day had been made, and paid the sum of £4 13s. 6d. as arrears; and will he explain why payment in full has been refused?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN, Stirling, &c.)

Under the Royal Warrant then in operation, Terence McCarroll was rightly pensioned in 1874 at 8d. a day. A new rule was, however, made in 1887, under which the pension was increased, on application in 1890, to 9d., and arrears were granted from the date of the new rule.
