HC Deb 14 December 1893 vol 19 c1363
COLONEL LOCKWOOD (Essex, Epping)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War if, in view of the statements that are being made in various newspapers as to the want of internal harmony and lack of discpline in the 1st Life Guards, he will state, in order to relieve the regiment from such a stigma, that such allegations are totally untrue and contrary to fact?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN, Stirling, &c.)

The attention of the General Officer Commanding the Home District has been drawn to these reports concerning the 1st Life Guards, and his reply is as follows;— There is absolutely no foundation for the statement. I regret these unfortunate charges, which cannot but cause pain to officers, noncommissioned officers, and men of the 1st Life Guards, which regiment is to the best of my belief in a good state of discipline.
