HC Deb 01 December 1893 vol 19 c347
SIR W. HARCOURT

Mr. Speaker, early in the evening my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister gave expression to the hope that the Committee would dispose of Clause 10 to-night, and added that, in that case, he would not ask the House to sit on Saturday. Although the clause has not been actually disposed of, what the Government has asked the House to do has been practically accomplished, there being now left for consideration only the selvage of Clause 10. Under these circumstances, the Government do not think they would be justified in asking the House to make the sacrifice entailed in a Saturday Sitting. We hope that only a brief time will be necessary for the completion of the clause on Monday. I should also like to say, on behalf of the Government, that we recognise the exertions that have been made by the great majority of Members to forward Business and Debate to-night.
