HC Deb 01 December 1893 vol 19 cc262-3
MR. POWELL WILLIAMS (Birmingham, S.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any communications, written or otherwise, have been made to the Foreign Office by the representative of any European Power concerning the recent permission accorded to Anarchists by the Home Office to hold a public meeting in Trafalgar Square; and, if so, whether he will inform the House of the purport of such communications?

THE UNDER SECRET AEY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir E. GEEY,) Northumberland, Berwick

We have had no intimation, direct or indirect, that any Foreign Government is aware of the meeting having been held.

MR. POWELL WILLIAMS

May I ask the hon. Baronet if the answer applies to Her Majesty's Ministers at Foreign Courts? Have not some remonstrances been addressed to them in relation to the presence of Anarchists in this country, and with especial reference to Trafalgar Square?

SIR E. GREY

No remonstrance as to proceedings in this country have been addressed to the Government, either directly or indirectly.
