HC Deb 29 August 1893 vol 16 cc1350-1
CAPTAIN NORTON

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, seeing that great inconvenience and frequently the loss of a day's wage is entailed upon the drivers and conductors of omnibuses and tramcars throughout the Metropolis owing to their ignorance of the fact that it is not necessary for them to attend at New Scotland Yard in order to obtain a renewed licence, but that this can be obtained at the police station nearest to the address of the licencee, he will take steps to have this information brought to their notice by means of Circular or otherwise?

MR. ASQUITH

The Commissioner has now under his consideration certain details in connection with this question; and as soon as they are settled steps will be taken to inform drivers and conductors generally as to the course to be pursued in respect of the renewal of their licences.
