HC Deb 25 August 1893 vol 16 c1102
DR. FARQUHARSON (Aberdeenshire, W.)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether he can now state the terms of Reference to the Royal Commission on Agriculture; whether the Commission will take evidence in various parts of the United Kingdom; and whether Scotland will lie directly represented on it?

THE FIRST LORD OF YHE TREASURY (MR. W. E. GLASTONE,) Edinburgh, Midlothian

The Royal Commission on Agriculture will be very simple in its form, its object being to inquire into the agricultural depression prevailing in Great Britain, and whether it can be alleviated by legislation or by other measures. It is hoped that the Commission will include the names of two gentlemen specially interested in Scottish agriculture. The Commission will have to decide for itself the mode in which it will proceed with respect to the taking of evidence.
