HC Deb 18 August 1893 vol 16 cc534-5
MR. E. H. BAYLEY (Camberwell, N.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will consider the propriety of supplying the police with lighter uniforms during the summer months?

MR. ASQUTTH

This question has frequently been under consideration, and, in the opinion of the Commissioners, after consultation with the chief surgeon of the police, having regard to the variable nature of the Metropolitan climate and to all the conditions of the case, it would not be advisable to provide the Metropolitan Police with lighter attire during the summer months.
