§ MR. KEIR HARDIE (West Ham, S.)I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland whether he has seen a circular dated 1st August, 1893, intimating the establishment of a law firm in Edinburgh, under the title of Campbell, Martin, and Boswell; whether P. W. Campbell, who signs the circular, was recently appointed principal clerk to the Second Division of the Court of Session; and whether it is permissible for a salaried official of the Court of Session to continue acting as legal adviser to persons whose cases come before that Court for decision?
§ THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Sir G. TREVELYAN, Glasgow, Bridgeton)Until the hon. Member was good enough to send it me, I had not seen the circular referred to in the question, but in regard to the latter portion of that question I can assure the hon. Member that Mr. Campbell was appointed to his present office upon the distinct understanding that he was to abstain from all Court practice.
