HC Deb 21 April 1893 vol 11 c904
MR. E. STANHOPE (Lincolnshire, Horncastle)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board if, before the Debates on the Second Reading of the Registration of Electors Amendment Bill and the Registration of. Voters (Scotland) Bill, he will give the House an approximate estimate of the number of voters who will be added to the Register of Electors under the provisions of those Bills; and if he will state whether it is the intention of the Government to extend the first of them to Ireland?

MR. H. H. FOWLER

I must remind the right hon. Gentleman of the reply which was given by me to my right hon. Friend the Member for Bury on the 28th March, with reference to the question as to an approximate estimate of the number of electors in England and Wales who would be added to the constituencies by the amendment of the law relating to the registration of electors. I understand that my right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary for Ireland has under consideration whether he will propose the addition of clauses for the purpose of dealing with Ireland.

MR. T. M. HEALY

Has the attention of the right hon. Gentleman been called to the fact, as shown by the Petitions sent to this House, that some hundreds of thousands of loyalists in the South and West of Ireland, although they now petition the House, never troubled to present themselves at the polling booths?
