HC Deb 20 April 1893 vol 11 c757
MR. ARNOLD-FORSTER (Belfast, W.)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will state, as exactly as possible, what was the amount paid in Income Tax by each Province of Ireland during the last financial year, and what was the amount paid under Schedule D by each Province during the same time; and how much of the amount paid in the Province of Leinster was contributed by persons or corporations resident or trading in the Province of Ulster?

THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Sir J. T. HIBBERT,) Oldham

The Chancellor of the Exchequer asks me to say that he has already stated to the hon. Member for West Cavan that this Return cannot be given for Provinces, as the tax districts for the collection of revenue are not co-terminate with the Provinces. The Returns might be given for the tax districts, and some general idea might be formed from them of the general contribution in different parts of the country. The Inland Revenue have no information which would enable them to answer the latter part of the question.

MR. T. W. RUSSELL (Tyrone, S.)

Is it not a fact that payments are credited to Minister in respect of money really earned in Ulster?

SIR J. T. HIBBERT

I must ask for notice of that question.

MR. T. W. RUSSELL

But is it not a fact?

MR. T. M. HEALY (Louth, N.)

It is not.
