FOSTER (Derby, Ilkeston)I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that an application has been made to the Trustees of the National Gallery for the loan of a picture or pictures for the coming Centenary Exhibition to be held at Southport to illustrate the Art of the century; and whether such a loan could be granted, considering that the pictures would be placed in the permanent Art Gallery of the town, and not be subject to the risks of an ordinary temporary exhibition?
SIR J. GORST (who replied)My right hon. Friend has no information with regard to the application to which the hon. Member refers. The matter would be one for the Trustees to determine, and it would not fall in any way under his administration.
