BYRON REED (Bradford, E.)I beg to ask the Vice President of the Committee of Council on Education whether he is aware that the Macclesfield School Board, which possesses no day school of its own, now proposes to form central classes for the instruction of pupil teachers of voluntary schools, and to subsidise such classes from the rates; and whether the School Board has power to carry these proposals into effect?

Friend, but the Department have no power to sanction it, and it will be for the local auditor to decide how far any application of public money to such an object is legal.
