ANGUS SUTHERLAND (Sutherland)I beg to ask the Lord Advocate how many applications have been made to the Secretary for Scotland by County Councils in the Highlands for grants in aid of constructing and improving small harbours, piers, and boat slips, under Section 2 of The Western Highlands and Islands (Scotland) Act, 1891; what is the gross amount applied for, and what is the amount the Government proposes to ask Parliament for this Session, under the said Section?

Member in answer to the first part of the question that 33 applications have been received up to the present; but I am unable to state the gross amount applied for, as the estimates of cost are not completed. The hon. Member will find in the current Estimates that the Government ask Parliament for a sum of £8,000 for the minor works under the Act.
