HC Deb 02 May 1892 vol 3 cc1756-7
MR. LYELL (Orkney and Shetland)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate if he will state on what authority, and on what information, H.M. gunboat Watchful has recently been despatched to Shetland to prevent the alleged threatened disturbances in the Island of Whalsay?

* THE LORD ADVOCATE (Sir C. J. PEARSON,) Edinburgh and St. Andrews Universities

Information was recently received by the Fishery Board that disturbances in relation to fishery matters were apprehended in the Island of Whalsay, and the gunboat Watchful, being the nearest available steamer, was despatched to the locality, but finding that her presence there was not required returned after a few days.
