HC Deb 31 March 1892 vol 3 cc359-60
MR. J. MADEN (Lancashire, Rossendale)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Agriculture whether persons who are now in occupation of land and buildings up to 50 acres will be able to avail themselves of the provisions of the Small Holdings Bill, in order to become the owners of the land and buildings they now occupy?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF AGRICULTURE (Mr. CHAPLIN,) Lincolnshire, Sleaford

If the hon. Member will refer to Section 1 of Clause 10 of the Bill he will find that the County Council may advance to a tenant who has agreed with his landlord for the purchase of his holding three-fourths of the purchase money, provided that the County Council is satisfied that the title to the holding is good, that the sale is made in good faith, and that the price is reasonable. Whether any particular tenant or tenants will be able to avail themselves of this provision will depend, of course, on the individual circumstances of each case, as to which I am not able to speak.
