HC Deb 28 March 1892 vol 3 cc48-9
MR. S. T. EVANS

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many clergymen of the Church of England have been convicted of treason or felony, or convicted on indictment of a misdemeanour, and sentenced to death or penal servitude or to imprisonment with hard labour during the last seven years; and whether, before the Second Reading of the Clergy Discipline (Immorality) Bill is moved, he will lay upon the Table of the House a Return for such period of seven years showing all such convictions, with particulars of the offences and sentences?

MR. MATTHEWS

I am unable to answer the first paragraph. The Return asked for would involve a lengthy and expensive investigation, and the information is not necessary for the consideration of the Bill.
