§ MR. KENYON (, &c.) DenbighI beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury what has happened to the pieces of church plate which were discovered two years ago near Dolgelly; whether the Trustees of the British Museum have expressed their willingness to take charge of them; and why their offer has not been accepted?
SIR J. GORSTThe Solicitor to the Treasury has never been able to ascertain the whereabouts of the articles in question, which appear to have been now spirited away, if not stolen. In the circumstances, the Treasury is not prepared to incur any expense in proving the Crown's title.
§ MR. KENYONWho was responsible for seeing that they were not spirited away?
SIR J. GORSTIf the hon. Member would like to see the correspondence I shall be happy to show it to him.
