§ SIR E. BIRKBECK (Norfolk, E.)I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to repeated resolutions passed at the Fishery Conferences held in London relative to the wholesale capture and destruction of immature and undersized fish, and to the necessity 1333 of legislation for the prohibition of the sale of flat fish below a standard size to be determined by a Select Committee of this House; and whether he will appoint such Committee without delay?
§ THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Sir M. HICKS BEACH,) Bristol, W.My attention has been called to certain resolutions of the Fishery Conferences and of other bodies on the subject of the capture and destruction of undersized fish, and the matter will be brought up for discussion at the annual statutory meeting of Sea Fisheries Authorities, which will be held at the Board of Trade on the 21st June. After that discussion I shall be in a better position to judge what steps may be desirable in the matter.
