CONDON (Tipperary, E.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether non-commissioned officers in Her Majesty's Service can evade the payment of their just debts, decrees for which have been given by Her Majesty's Courts of Law; and, if not, will he inform the House how such decrees or judgments are to be satisfied?
§ MR. E. STANHOPEBy the nature of his employment a soldier is useless unless he can be present with his corps; and accordingly the law provides that he may not be arrested or compelled to appear before a Court for a debt of less than £30. The exemption, however, only applies to his person, pay, and equipment, and not to his property, on which a creditor may sue and have execution.
