HC Deb 09 March 1892 vol 2 cc441-2

COMMITTEE.

Bill considered in Committee.

(In the Committee.)

Clause 1 agreed to.

Clause 2.

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Chairman do report Progress, and ask leave to sit again."—(Mr. Knox.)

MR. KNOWLES (Salford, W.)

There is only one Amendment to the Bill, and the Bill practically consists of only one clause. Among those who take an interest in the matter there is a desire that the Bill should pass, as I gather from individual Members with whom I have spoken. On the back of the Bill there is a memorandum which clearly sets out the object of the measure. The Bill does not apply to Ireland. I hope the hon. Member will allow the Bill to go through.

MR. KNOX (Cavan, W.)

The hon. Member should take the House into his confidence, not only a few Members, and then probably we should agree with him.

MR. KNOWLES

I have already made two statements in explanation.

Motion, by leave, withdrawn.

Amendment proposed, in page 1, line 11, at end, add "and 'assurance' has the same meaning as in 'The Mortmain and Charitable Uses Act, 1888."'—(Mr. Knowles.)

Amendment agreed to.

Clause, as amended, agreed to.

Clauses 3 and 4 agreed to.

Bill reported, as amended; to be considered To-morrow.
