§ MR. KNOXI beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury what decision has been arrived at as to the payment of the costs, &c, in the case of "Ryan v. the Guardians of the Cavan Union"?
SIR JOHN GOESTI have again made inquiry, and am informed that the Inspector did not recommend the Guardians to reject the potatoes after handpicking, and that it was not in obedience to his order that they rejected the handpicked seed. The Inspector examined the seed supplied by Mr. Ryan to the Guardians after delivery, and reported that it was very uneven and not equal to the sample handed in by the contractor. The hon. Member will see that my information does not confirm the accuracy of the statements made on the subject in this House, so that I do not as yet see my way to sanction payment of the costs; but I have asked for, and am still awaiting, a copy of the proceedings in the case, so as to leave no means untried of obtaining perfectly complete information.
