HC Deb 10 June 1892 vol 5 cc696-7
MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN (for Mr. CAREW,) Kildare, N.

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether Her Majesty's Government intend to take any, and what, steps to carry out the recommendations contained in the Report of the Committee appointed to consider the spacing and construction of watertight bulkheads in ships of the Mercantile Marine?

*SIR MICHAEL HICKS BEACH

The Board of Trade are acting upon the recommendations of the Bulkheads Committee, and in every case in which they are satisfied that those recommendations have been complied with, they authorise a reduction of the life-saving appliances otherwise required by the Statute to be carried on board every British merchant ship.
