MR. A. J. MUNDELLA (Sheffield, Brightside)

I wish to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs a question of which I have given private notice—whether at any time since the enactment of the M'Kinley Tariff Act any representations or remonstrances have been addressed to the United States Government by Her Majesty's Minister at Washington; and whether any communications have been received at the Foreign Office relating to interviews or discussions which are said to have taken place between Her Majesty's Ministers and Mr. Blaine, the late Secretary of State, on the subject?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. J. W. LOWTHER, Cumberland, Penrith)

In reply to the first question of the right hon. Gentleman, no repre- sentations or remonstrances have been addressed to the United States Government by Her Majesty's Minister at Washington with regard to the M'Kinley Tariff Act. In reply to the second question, no communication relating to interviews or discussions which are said to have taken place have been reported to the Foreign Office.
