HC Deb 28 May 1891 vol 353 c1185
SIR G. CAMPBELL (Kirkcaldy, &c.)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in the event of Parliament voting the necessary funds, any legislation would be necessary to enable the Education Department to increase the Capitation Grant to aided schools, on condition that up to certain standards or ages the teaching is free of charge?

MR. GOSCHEN

In reply to the hon. Member, Her Majesty's Government do not consider that it would be possible to carry out a scheme such as that suggested in his question without legislative enactment.
