HC Deb 08 May 1891 vol 353 c359
MR. LABOUCHERE (Northampton)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has noticed the report in the London daily newspapers, of 5th May, of a charge against John West for disorderly conduct, at the West London Police Court, in which the presiding Magistrate marked the sheet, as follows:— I am of opinion that Charles Yeates, P.C., has been guilty of gross excess of duty in this case by striking the prisoner in the face, and using further violence without any justification: and whether it is intended to institute proceedings against the aforesaid Charles Yeates, P.C.?

MR. MATTHEWS

This matter is being inquired into to-day by the authorities of Scotland Yard, and it will depend on the result of the investigation what action is taken with respect to this police constable.
