HC Deb 06 May 1891 vol 353 c209
MR. T. M. HEALY (Longford, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland what is the present condition of Mr. John Cullinane, of Bansha, who is in prison in Tullamore, although his sentence has expired?

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

The General Prisons Board report that Mr. John Cullinane and a warder, with several others in Tullamore Prison, are suffering from influenza. I gave that information to the hon. Member yesterday. I have heard, in addition, to-day, that Cullinane is in the prison hospital, and that, in the opinion of the doctor, he is not in a position to be removed. Of course, as soon as he can be removed with safety, he will be. He has the advice of his own doctor as well as of the prison doctor.

MR. T. M. HEALY

May I ask if his condition is as serious as is reported?

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

I have not seen the report to which the hon. and learned Gentleman refers, but I am afraid that he is seriously ill.

MR. T. M. HEALY

I will put a further question to-morrow.
