R., Holmfirth)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department 1669 whether the Return, "Coal Mines (Explosions)," was compiled (and especially as to the hours of the shifts when the explosions took place) from information already in the Home Office or in the hands of the Inspectors, or whether it was specially obtained from the colliery owners for the purposes of the Return?
§ MR. MATTHEWSThe Inspectors whom I called upon to furnish this Return do not in all cases state the sources of their information; but it appears to have been gathered for the most part from notes and documents in their possession, and in part from inquiries made at the collieries.
