TANNER (in the absence of Sir THOMAS ESMONDE)I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether complaints have reached him that the sacks in which the supply of seed potatoes, which are to be sold at 1s. a stone, sent to Ballinore were found to contain a considerable quantity of clay, and that many of the potatoes were utterly unfit for seed; and, whether, in view of the poverty of the district, and the absolute necessity of the potato crop being sown this month, the Government will take immediate steps to ensure that a sufficient supply of sound potato seed is supplied to the people, and at a price they can afford to pay?
