HC Deb 29 June 1891 vol 354 cc1716-7
MR. SYDNEY BUXTON (Tower Hamlets, Poplar)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether Her Majesty's Government will lay upon the Table all Papers relating to the Slave Trade up to the latest date?

SIR J. FERGUSSON

Papers relative to the Slave Trade in East Africa have just been laid. There are few to be given, as the sea-borne trade in this quarter is reported by the senior naval officer to be practically extinct, and recent operations in the neighbourhood of Suakin have paralysed the Red Sea trade. On the general question, the fullest information was given in the Protocols of the Brussels Conference. The 84th Article of the Brussels Act provides for the collection and periodical publication of information respecting the Slave Trade drawn from all sources. This should form an exhaustive source of information in future.
