HC Deb 22 June 1891 vol 354 cc1063-4
MR. SCHWANN

I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether his attention has been drawn to the great height to which a building is being carried in High Street, Kensington, bordering on Kensington Gardens; and whether he has any power to limit the height to which buildings may be carried which are immediately contiguous to the public parks, and which are likely to prove an eyesore, and decrease the value of the amenity and lessen materially the enjoyment of the parks by the general public?

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. PLUNKET,) Dublin University

My attention has for some time been directed to the building in the High Street, Kensington, mentioned in the question. I have only indirect means of exercising any control in such cases: but such as they are, I have employed those means, with the result that the intended height of the building has been reduced by about 20 feet, and I have obtained some further concessions from the owners of the house.
