HC Deb 22 June 1891 vol 354 cc1062-3
MR. WATT (Glasgow, Camlachie)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any communication has been received from the Governor of British Guiana, since his appointment, with reference to the granting of a charter to Georgetown; and, if not, whether, provided a Petition to Her Majesty be received from the Mayor and Council, unanimously supported by the inhabitants, the Secretary of State will give the same his favourable consideration?

The communication referred to has not been received, and the Secretary of State can express no opinion on the subject until the Petition has been transmitted by the Governor with his Report.
